How to Block Emails in Outlook (Senders and Whole Domains)

Pushy salespeople, newsletters that ignore "unsubscribe", or an ex who won't take the hint — blocking a sender sends their emails straight to your Junk folder, so you never have to see them.
New Outlook and Outlook on the web
1. Right-click the email in your inbox.
2. Choose Block > Block sender.
3. Click OK.
2. Choose Block > Block sender.
3. Click OK.
Or open the email, click ⋯ (More actions) and choose Block > Block sender.
Future emails from that address go straight to Junk Email, and they're automatically deleted after a while.
Classic Outlook for Windows
1. Select the email.
2. On the Home tab, click Junk.
3. Choose Block Sender.
2. On the Home tab, click Junk.
3. Choose Block Sender.
You can also right-click the email and choose Junk > Block Sender.
Outlook for Mac
Right-click the email and choose Block Sender, or go to Message > Junk Mail > Block Sender.
Outlook on your phone
Open the email, tap ⋯, then Block sender (or Report junk > Block sender, depending on your version).
Block a whole domain
If the emails keep coming from different addresses at the same company (sales1@, sales2@, offers@…), block the whole domain.
New Outlook and web:
1. Go to Settings > Mail > Junk email.
2. Under Blocked senders and domains, click + Add.
3. Type the domain, for example annoyingcompany.com, and press Enter.
4. Click Save.
2. Under Blocked senders and domains, click + Add.
3. Type the domain, for example annoyingcompany.com, and press Enter.
4. Click Save.
Classic Outlook:
1. Go to Home > Junk > Junk E-mail Options…
2. Click the Blocked Senders tab.
3. Click Add… and type @annoyingcompany.com.
4. Click OK.
2. Click the Blocked Senders tab.
3. Click Add… and type @annoyingcompany.com.
4. Click OK.
Be careful not to block big providers like gmail.com or outlook.com — you'd block everyone who uses them.
Scam or spam? Report it
For phishing emails (fake bank messages, "your account is suspended"), blocking isn't enough — scammers just use a different address.
• Select the email and click Report > Report phishing (or Report junk for ordinary spam).
This moves it out of your inbox and helps Microsoft's filters catch similar emails for everyone.
Never click links or "unsubscribe" in an email you think is spam. It confirms your address is real and can lead to more spam — or a fake website. Unsubscribe links are only safe in newsletters you actually signed up for.
Unblock someone
New Outlook and web: Settings > Mail > Junk email, find the address under Blocked senders and domains and click the bin icon. Click Save.
Classic Outlook: Home > Junk > Junk E-mail Options > Blocked Senders, select the address and click Remove.
Real emails going to Junk?
Add the sender to your Safe senders list:
• Right-click the email in Junk and choose Mark as not junk (new Outlook) or Junk > Not Junk (classic), and tick the option to always trust the sender.
• Or add them manually under Safe senders and domains in the Junk email settings.
• Or add them manually under Safe senders and domains in the Junk email settings.
Wrapping up
Right-click and Block sender for the occasional nuisance, block the domain when they keep changing addresses, and use Report phishing for anything that looks like a scam.
