How to Change Your Profile Picture in Teams

How to Change Your Profile Picture in Teams
Two grey initials in a circle tell people nothing. A proper photo makes you easier to spot in a busy chat and makes meetings feel a little more human. It takes about a minute.

Change your picture on Windows or Mac

1. Click your profile picture (or initials) at the top right of Teams.
2. Click the camera icon on your picture, or click Change picture.
3. Click Upload picture and choose a photo from your computer.
4. Drag to position it and use the slider to zoom.
5. Click Save.
Square photos work best. Teams crops everything to a circle, so keep your face in the middle.

Change your picture on your phone

1. Tap your profile picture at the top left.
2. Tap your picture again, then Edit image.
3. Choose Take a photo or Open photo library.
4. Adjust and tap Done.

Remove your picture

Click your profile picture, then the camera icon, and choose Remove picture. You go back to your initials.

Where else the picture appears

Teams shares the photo with your whole Microsoft 365 account, so it shows up in Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive and on documents you comment on. It may take a few hours to update everywhere.

Pick a good photo

• Face the light, not away from it.
• Plain background, head and shoulders.
• Something you'd be happy for a new client to see.

Troubleshooting

The camera icon isn't there. Your organisation has locked profile pictures, usually so IT can keep them consistent. Ask your admin or HR to change it for you.
The new picture hasn't appeared. Give it up to 24 hours, then sign out of Teams and back in. Clearing the Teams cache also forces a refresh.
It's blurry or stretched. Upload a larger image (at least 500 × 500 pixels) and crop it in Teams rather than uploading a tiny one.
I'm on a personal account. Free Teams uses your Microsoft account photo. Change it at account.microsoft.com and it will follow through.

Wrapping up

Click your picture at the top right, click the camera, upload and save. It updates across Microsoft 365 automatically, and if the option is missing, your IT team controls it.
