How to Create Tags in Teams (@Mention a Group of People at Once)

@mentioning five people one by one is slow, and @channel wakes up fifty. Tags sit in between: a label for a group of people in a team, like @designers or @first-aiders, that you can mention in one go.
Create a tag
1. Click Teams on the left and find the team.
2. Click ⋯ next to the team name and choose Manage tags.
3. Click Create tag.
4. Type a name (keep it short; it'll be typed after an @) and an optional description.
5. Add the people who belong to it.
6. Click Create.
2. Click ⋯ next to the team name and choose Manage tags.
3. Click Create tag.
4. Type a name (keep it short; it'll be typed after an @) and an optional description.
5. Add the people who belong to it.
6. Click Create.
Use a tag
In any channel of that team, type @ followed by the tag name, for example @managers, and pick it from the list. Everyone in the tag gets a notification, the same as a personal mention. Tags work in meeting chats for that team too.
Add or remove people from a tag
Go back to ⋯ > Manage tags, click the tag, and use Add or the X next to a name. You can also hover over someone in Manage team > Members and click the tag icon on their row.
Who can create tags
By default, team owners can manage tags. An owner can let members do it too: ⋯ > Manage team > Settings > Tags > Tags are managed by.
Good tags to have
• @shift tags: @mornings, @nights, @weekend
• Roles: @owners, @approvers, @first-aiders
• Locations: @london, @manchester
• Rotas: @on-call this week (update it each Monday)

Tags vs channels vs group chats
• A tag notifies a set of people inside a team. Everyone else in the channel still sees the message.
• A private channel gives a set of people their own space the rest of the team can't see.
• A group chat is for people who might not be in the same team at all.

Troubleshooting
"Manage tags" isn't there. Tags are turned off for your organisation, or you're not an owner and owners have kept control. Ask an owner.
I typed @tag and nothing appeared. Tags only work in the team they were created in. In a chat outside that team, mention people individually.
Someone isn't getting tag notifications. Check they're actually in the tag, and that their channel notifications aren't set to Off.
Wrapping up
⋯ > Manage tags > Create tag, add the people, then type @tagname in a channel. It's the polite middle ground between pestering individuals and pinging the whole team.
