How to Schedule a Message in Teams (Send It Later)

How to Schedule a Message in Teams (Send It Later)
You've thought of something at 10pm. You don't want to lose it, but you also don't want to ping a colleague's phone at 10pm. Teams can hold the message and deliver it at a time you choose.

Schedule a message

1. Open the chat and type your message as normal.
2. Right-click the Send button (or press and hold it on a touchscreen).
3. Pick a date and time from the panel. Teams suggests sensible times, or set your own.
4. Click Send at scheduled time.
The message appears in the chat with a Scheduled label and a clock icon. Only you can see it until it's sent.

Change or cancel a scheduled message

Hover over the scheduled message and click ⋯ More options:
• Edit — change the text.
• Reschedule — pick a different time.
• Send now — don't wait.
• Delete — cancel it.

On your phone

Press and hold the Send button, choose a time and tap Send at scheduled time.

Where it works

Scheduled send works in one-to-one and group chats. It doesn't currently work for channel posts; for those, write a draft in a OneNote tab or a Loop component and post it when you're ready.

Good uses

• Colleagues in other time zones: write it now, deliver it in their morning.
• Monday morning reminders written on Friday afternoon.
• Keeping your own working hours without losing the thought.
• A birthday or welcome message you don't want to forget.

Respecting quiet hours

Teams can also warn you when you're about to message someone outside their working hours. That nudge is a good moment to right-click Send and schedule instead.

Troubleshooting

Right-clicking Send does nothing. Update Teams: scheduled send arrived in the new Teams app. In the browser, press and hold Send or use the small arrow next to it if there is one.
The message sent immediately. Check the time you chose wasn't in the past; Teams sends anything scheduled for a time that's already gone.
I can't see my scheduled messages. They sit in the chat you wrote them in, at the bottom, until they're sent. There isn't a central list.

Wrapping up

Type the message, right-click Send, choose a time and click Send at scheduled time. Edit or reschedule it from ⋯ if plans change. It's the easiest way to be thoughtful without being forgetful.
