The benefits of a new monitor

I’ve seen quite a few people using small 14″ monitors that came with their first computer and because they used to be really expensive, never replaced them.

Here are some of the benefits of a larger monitor.

1. Larger monitors increase productivity

A recent study performed at the University of Utah revealed that using a larger monitor increased productivity by 52%, the equivalent to a saving of 2.5 hours per day.

2. Easier on the eyes

Modern large monitors have increased brightness; give sharper images and have a better resolution, all help to reduce eye strain.

With a larger monitor, you can see more of what is on the screen, so in a spreadsheet that means more rows and columns can be seen without needing to scroll.

3. Split screens for twice the content

Larger monitors allow for split screen operation. This means you can do two or more tasks at the same time.

A good example is when you are comparing notes, say for the minutes of a meeting. You can have the minutes of the last meeting open on the left side of the screen and the current minutes on the right.

Instead of looking away from the screen to read the last minutes, you can simply glance to the left and then back to the right.

4. Video playback

Most videos are now recorded in widescreen format, and since larger monitors are widescreen, this makes video playback a lot clearer and easier without the black bands.

5. Price

The cost of running an old monitor is a factor, since all modern monitors are designed with power consumption at a minimum.

You can replace your existing monitor for less than you think as a decent 24″ HD monitor costs just £90.
